The Malama Learning Center is a combination of a high school facility program, community center and the offices and research facility for the Nature Conservancy in Oahu. The design responds to the multi-programmatic element by heightening a sense of introspective-performance of the activities of the Nature Conservancy and the community center function. By integrating the circulation whilst resolving the issues of functional separation, an exchange between learning and performance is spatialized. This then reinforced in light and environment through the natural light apertures of the roof system and the passive strategies of tempered microclimates produced by the water reservoir and the long overhang at the buildings plaza level.
